Trailer Rodeo

Saddle Up for Safety Sept 21st, 2024

The Annual Trailer Rodeo Event by CCFMP

CCFMP (Clark County Fair Mounted Patrol) will offer a unique and educational event known as the Trailer Rodeo. This event is organized by the dedicated members of the CCFMP in conjunction with Washington State Patrol and CDL holding volunteers. This event is a testament to our unwavering commitment to support the horse community by promoting safe horse trailer usage and maneuverability. The main objective of the Trailer Rodeo is to create a safer environment for our four-legged friends and the confidence of their human counterparts when operating their truck and trailer.

A Rodeo with a Purpose

The Trailer Rodeo is far from the traditional rodeo people often associate with the wild west. Instead, it’s a gathering of horse owners, who come together to learn, share knowledge, and practice essential skills related to horse trailer safety. What sets this event apart is that is attended by a wide range of horse owners, from beginners to seasoned professionals who want to learn in a no pressure environment how to backup and maneuver their trailer. There is no fee for this training, however there is a $20 suggested donation to attend. We will be providing lunch and auction baskets for you to get a chance to win!

Promoting Safe Horse Trailer Usage

One of the primary objectives of the Trailer Rodeo is to educate participants about horse trailer laws and equip them with the knowledge they need to stay compliant and safe on the road. CCFMP partners with Washington State Patrol to explain specific trailer regulations. Understanding these laws is crucial to ensuring the well-being of both horses and humans during transport.

Equipment Safety Inspection

Before hitting the road, every horse owner should have their trailer inspected for safety. The Trailer Rodeo provides a platform for horse owners to have their trailers inspected by experts. This inspection includes checking for proper hitching, brake functionality, tire condition, and more. The goal is to identify and address potential safety hazards before they become critical issues.

Instructional Training

The heart of the Trailer Rodeo lies in its instructional training sessions, where participants can refine their trailer-handling skills. The event covers a wide range of topics, including:

Backing Up
Maneuvering a horse trailer in reverse can be a challenging task. Participants learn the art of precision and control to ensure safe navigation in tight spaces

Turning Radius
Understanding the limitations of a horse trailer’s turning radius is crucial for avoiding accidents on the road. The Trailer Rodeo offers practical training on making sharp turns without compromising safety.

Obstacle Course
A challenging obstacle course is set up, designed to mimic real-world scenarios that horse owners may encounter when transporting their animals. This provides an opportunity to practice critical skills under controlled conditions.

Parking
Learning how to park a horse trailer efficiently is essential for both safety and convenience. Trailer Rodeo participants receive hands-on training in parking techniques that make the process stress-free.

Building a Stronger Community

Beyond the practical skills and knowledge, the Trailer Rodeo fosters a sense of community among horse owners. It provides a platform for networking, sharing experiences, and connecting with others who share a passion for horses. Building a supportive horse community is just as important as learning the technical aspects of safe trailer usage.

The Trailer Rodeo, organized annually by the CCFMP, is a testament to the commitment of its members to promote safe horse trailer usage and support the horse community. This event offers horse owners a valuable opportunity to enhance their trailer-handling skills, understand trailer laws, and connect with like-minded individuals. By equipping horse owners with the knowledge and skills they need, the Trailer Rodeo ensures safer journeys for our equine companions and the people who love them. It’s a rodeo with a purpose, and one that the horse community eagerly anticipates year after year.
